The following products have proven success in the renewable energy sector.

Renewable Energy

Renewable Energy

Geothermal heating is one of the widely-recognised renewable energy technologies and works on the principle that the ground is essentially a heat store providing a stable temperature. Systems can be designed based on this stable temperature to give efficient hot water and heating to domestic homes and commercial buildings. As well as ground and air being used as a heat source, water bodies (lakes, rivers) are also becoming more popular.

Kilfrost’s revolutionary heat transfer fluid technology provides a compelling commercial solution to long-standing challenges faced by heat pump installers.

Now, you need to choose the right heat transfer fluid for your Renewable Energy needs.

Ground Source Heat Pump

Renewable Energy

A Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) system harvests heat from underground. A GSHP system relies on a ground loop, a network of pipes buried in the earth. These pipes contain a heat transfer fluid and absorb the naturally occurring heat stored in the ground. A heat exchanger extracts the heat and transfers it to the heating system for further use.

Renewable Energy

But do not just take our word for it. Go Geothermal are the UK’s largest independent supplier of heat pumps, distributing a huge range of products which meet the requirements of each individual project. As experts in renewable energy, the team supports customers through every step of selecting and operating the right renewable energy system.

Go Geothermal identify the benefits of Kilfrost GEO.

Choosing the right heat transfer fluids for your heat pump heat

Renewable Energy

Safe and non-toxic

Kilfrost GEO fluid can offer you piece of mind as the fluid is non-toxic and bio-derived, which has been classified as non-hazardous in accordance with CLP/REACH. MEG, MPG, Bio-PDO and ethanol-based heat transfer fluids as well as some corrosion inhibitor packs designed to be added to water may also contain toxic chemicals, which are not present in Kilfrost GEO.

Renewable Energy

Low risk of contamination

Kilfrost GEO has a low risk of contamination due to its chemical formulation as the base fluid is bio-derived. The benefit of a bio-derived base fluid means that Kilfrost GEO has a superior environmental profile and comes with a low risk to mammals and aquatic life. This is due to the low BOD and COD of the components in the formulation.

BOD: how much oxygen is likely to be needed by bacterial decomposition of a substance in the environment.

COD: the maximum amount of oxygen required for full chemical degradation of the substance, usually higher than BOD.

Additional level of reassurance

Heat transfer fluids can be assured as safe for incidental food and beverage contact through certification by the US NSF organisation. Kilfrost GEOPLUS has undergone this certification by the inspection and approval of the individual components of the formulation. This offers you additional reassurance if you are going to propagate crops or have animals on the land where the ground source collection pipes are buried.

Water Source Heat pump

Renewable Energy

A Water Source Heat Pump system uses the natural heat that is present in lakes, ponds, rivers, springs or wells.

There are two types of systems, closed-loop and open-loop.

Kilfrost GEO would be the superior heat transfer fluid of choice for this application

Air Source Heat Pump

Renewable Energy

An Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) is a system that transfers heat from outside air. An ASHP uses a refrigerant system involving a compressor and a condenser to absorb at one place and release it to another. These systems need electricity to run but the heat output energy is many times greater than the electrical energy input needed to operate the system.

Kilfrost AIR would be the superior heat transfer fluid of choice for this application eliminating challenges previous associated with Air Source Heat Pumps.

Renewable Energy

Reduce cost

Kilfrost AIR is an engineered low viscosity fluid which outperforms MEG, MPG, Bio-PDO and ethanol-based heat transfer fluids. The graph below shows that as the temperature decreases Kilfrost AIR fluid remains low in viscosity. How does this help you reduce costs?

As the temperature decreases other products become more viscous and “sluggish”. Kilfrost AIR fluid remains low in viscosity which means less pumping power is required to circulate the fluid around the system. Due to this hydraulic efficiency it will in turn reduce the energy usage for your pump, thereby reducing energy costs.

Renewable Energy

Asset protection and lifespan of equipment

Kilfrost AIR has been tested to and exceeds the ASTM D1384-05 corrosion standard at 88°C providing outstanding protection for the components of the pump.
