Kilfrost Rail Plus
Rail Plus is the Kilfrost product with the highest thickening power for anti-icing situations. The fluid is used on the pantograph and electrified third rails used in urban rail and mass transit systems. Frost and snow cause major problems to pantographs and third rail systems, where poor contact between the current collection device and the rail can lead to damaging electrical arcing and loss of power to the train. The enhanced-viscosity formulation of Kilfrost Rail Plus offers protection from frost and freezing precipitation on the rail for extended periods, preventing ice from forming and offers excellent resistance to snow, hail and rain. Kilfrost Rail Plus has undergone extensive rigorous testing by independent third-party testing facilities and has repeatedly demonstrated that it is the superior to any other commercially available product. It also actively protects the track and other metal infrastructure from corrosion and can be used on points and switches. Use of Kilfrost Rail Plus during winter conditions helps trains to run uninterrupted and safely in temperatures of -25°C and below.
Use of Kilfrost Rail Plus
Third rail
Dispense 20-30 millilitres of Rail Plus anti-icing fluid to the rail head per metre. The dispense rate or frequency of application may need to be varied depending on severity on weather conditions.
Pantograph
Dispense 50-100 millilitres of Rail Plus anti-icing fluid to the pantograph arms to produce an even coating of protection. The dispense rate or frequency of application may need to be increased depending on severity on weather conditions.
Points and Switches
Apply Kilfrost Rail Plus anti-icing fluid for points and switches by spraying. Apply the material to the nip between the switch rails and stock rails or to crossing flangeways. Do not apply the material to the rail head. For best results apply the material on the onset of ice and snow to act as a preventative measure. Where deicing has taken place take care to ensure that the slide chairs are kept adequately lubricated. Kilfrost Rail is NOT a lubricant and thereby does not remove, interact or affect the lubricant. The dispense rate or frequency of application may need to be increased depending on severity on weather conditions.
