We’re excited to announce that our GEO and GEO Plus heat transfer fluids are now integrated into GHEtool.

GHEtool is a cloud-based simulation software that supports engineers, construction companies and researchers with accurate calculations for geothermal borefields.

GHEtool enables users to run accurate simulations, using our heat transfer fluids, with dynamically updated borehole thermal resistances for every hour, in both heating and cooling!

Its advanced simulation capabilities address the unique complexities of large-scale, multi-building projects but its powerful features, which deliver precise calculations can also be beneficial to small or single building developments.

Using the software, which is maintained by the energy consultants Enead, users can enhance the design of geothermal borefields. As it offers significant benefits in accuracy, cost-efficiency, and flexibility compared to conventional methods and software.

Kilfrost GEO is an advanced low viscosity heat transfer fluid specifically engineered to enhance the performance and safety of closed-loop ground and water source heat pumps. Kilfrost GEO reduces system pressure drops, lowers pumping energy and costs, and improves overall efficiency.

Kilfrost GEO Plus is a next-generation, non-toxic low viscosity heat transfer fluid. It has been designed for demanding closed-loop ground and water source heat pump systems and it combines exceptional thermal efficiency with robust system protection.

Now that our GEO and GEO Plus fluids are integrated into the software they can be selected and work seamlessly with all existing modules in GHEtool to run accurate simulations and comparisons – helping engineers to see for themselves the benefits we already know our low viscosity fluid has over MPG, such as:

  • GEO Plus offers better thermal performance at the same flow rate, also owing to the faster rate at which it reaches turbulence

  • GEO Plus will always perform better than MPG at the same Reynolds number and will have a lower pressure drop for equal Reynolds numbers

Wouter Peere, Engineering Manager at Enead commented: “We are very happy with our collaboration with Kilfrost and the company’s commitment to develop a sustainable and efficient heat transfer fluid. Its vision is in line with our goal to help our users design borefields with confidence. With the addition of Kilfrost GEO and Kilfrost GEO Plus in GHEtool, our users can make more informed decisions and design choices related to pressure drop and borehole thermal resistance.”

Since the platform was released in November last year more than 40,000 borefield simulations have been completed. You can learn more about the software here. And you can view the results of simulations here.

If you’re interested in further exploring Kilfrost and GHEtool, schedule a demo where the benefits of the software will be explained.
