  • Blind Football Fan Can ‘See’ Again Thanks to Wearable Technology Donation

    A college-going football fan who lost his sight due to a rare birth condition is making use of the latest wearable technology to help him overcome his disability, thanks to a generous donation.

    Lee Harding, 23, of Langley Terrace in Jarrow, is able to ‘read’ again and recognise friendly faces thanks to the OrCam MyEye device, which uses text and facial recognition and informs the user of what its cameras see through recorded speech.

  • PhD Brings New Ideas to Safety Critical Aviation Fluid Research

    A development chemist who has worked with the pioneers of safety critical aviation fluids for more than six years is bringing new ideas to the company after being awarded a PhD in the study of supramolecular material science.

    Dr Nicole Whitelaw studied for three years at the University of York for the qualification, while also carrying out her duties for Kilfrost Ltd, based in Haltwhistle in Northumberland.
