A generous and timely charitable donation from a local company has helped a youth club's move into new facilities.
The club, which is run by local Youth Worker Ayesha Banks, had previously been solely based in the town's Methodist Church Hall, but after successfully leasing their new home from the Haltwhistle Community Partnership, they have now renovated the extra building to become a 'chill-out zone' for local teenagers.
De/anti-icing expert Kilfrost has provided support to buy IT equipment and cover general running costs at Haltwhistle Main Street Youth Club's additional new premises in The Old Water Tower.
"We are extremely proud of our strong roots in the North East and delighted to support the youth club with this donation," revealed Gary Lydiate, Chief Executive for Kilfrost.
As well as giving youngsters a safe, fully-supervised place to meet on Friday and Saturday evenings - with full kitchen facilities, CD players and access to the internet all available- the youth club will also run a series of courses on subjects such as Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, First Aid, and IT, giving local teens the chance to develop crucial skills that will help them in later life.
"It's brilliant to finally move into our new home," said Ayesha Banks, Youth Worker for Haltwhistle Main Street Youth Club."The youngsters took a real interest and ownership during all the renovations and decorating we carried out, and the building really is a welcoming place for young people to hang out. With Haltwhistle being quite a remote, rural area, it's sometimes difficult for teenagers to find something positive to do. But with these additional premises, they'll have somewhere to go where they'll be safe, have a chance to learn new skills, and most importantly have lots of fun!"
Along with the Kilfrost donation, the youth club has previously received cash injections from Northumberland County Council's Youth Capital Fund and Community Chest initiative, as well as grants from the Big Lottery Fund, the Co-operative Community Fund, and the Sherburn House Charity.
"Ayesha and her fellow staff do such fantastic work with the local youngsters and we're sure that this move to new premises will help them support the community even more," Gary Lydiate concluded.
